Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was born in Barcelona and has been described as an "atypical pop star" due to her variety of musical styles. [9] She was captivated by Spanish folk music when she was only 13 years old. She studied musicology at Catalonia College of Music and also performed at weddings. Reimagining flamenco by mixing it with hip-hop and pop music, it spawned the hit singles "Malamente" and "Pienso in the Mirror" which attracted the attention of the Spanish general public and released to widespread praise from critics. El Mal Querer was the first to bring Rosalia on the international music scene. Rosalia's albums of 2019 "Con Altura" (13) and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi" (12-13) were a pioneer in urbano music, achieving world-wide popularity. With her third studio album Motomami (2022) she gave reggaeton a fresh style, straying slightly from the flamenco sound of the first. Its singles "La Fama", and "Saoko" attracted the attention of the world's media and was the top-rated album on Metacritic. Through her career, Rosalia has accumulated ten top singles in her native country, which is a record for an artist from the country. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including 2 Album of the Year nominations), four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been given to her. Also, she was awarded two Premio Ruido Awards. In 2019, Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award for "changing the style of popular music by introducing a fresh, flamenco-inspired pop",[18and she became the first singer from Spain ever to be recognized as the the Best New Artist award at the Grammy Awards. Born in a family with no artistic heritage She is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who manages a small family business specialised in metalworks.
